Monster's Paradise by Elfriede Jelinek and Olga Neuwirth at Graz Opera'Two "vampirettes" on a global mission, salvation imaginable only through a creature with inhuman qualities – a monster – and music theatre as a reflection of a world coming apart at the seams: Monster's Paradise brings together Olga Neuwirth's radical musical imagination and Elfriede Jelinek's razor-sharp language with wit, dark humour and striking social commentary. Internationally acclaimed director Tobias Kratzer transforms this brand-new political grotesque into a spectacular contemporary music theatre experience. More than twenty years after their landmark collaborations Bählamms Fest and Lost Highway, Olga Neuwirth and Elfriede Jelinek reunite to create a biting allegory of the present. Inspired by works such as Ligeti's Le Grand Macabre and Penderecki's Ubu Rex, they send two "vampirettes" on an absurd journey through a collapsing world, exploring power, media frenzy and humanity's decline. The result is a provocative blend of political satire, myth and dark comedy that asks whether the world can only be saved by a monster. Austrian premiere – a co-production with the Hamburg State Opera and Zurich Opera House. Performed in German and English with German surtitles. Tickets: Available online at ticketzentrum.at or from the Ticketzentrum, Kaiser-Josef-Platz 10, 8010 Graz.
