Amidst this chaos, two young people meet and fall in love, a love with no place in such a merciless reality. Choreographer Etienne Béchard reimagines Shakespeare's timeless tragedy in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic setting, combining Sergei Prokofiev's legendary score with powerful contemporary choreography. Shakespeare meets Mad Max! As the bitter conflict between the Montagues and Capulets rages on, hatred and violence dominate society. Against all odds, Romeo and Juliet fall in love, only to discover that love cannot survive where destruction prevails. Prokofiev's emotionally charged ballet score, renowned for its rich orchestration and rhythmic intensity, forms the foundation of this striking new production. French choreographer Etienne Béchard, acclaimed for blending contemporary dance, theatre and acrobatics, brings a fresh perspective to Shakespeare's classic. Following acclaimed productions with the Ballet de l'Opéra du Rhin, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal and Bühnen Bern, he makes his Graz debut.
