Fremde Heimat – Dance Evening on the Studio Stage at Graz Opera A dance evening in two parts (2027) featuring choreographies by Jon Ole Olstad (Schneeland) and Heidi Vierthaler (Kogel) The dance evening ‘Foreign Homeland’ brings together two choreographies that approach the theme of ‘homeland’ from different perspectives, using poetic movement and atmospheric imagery. Here, ‘homeland’ is not presented as a geographical location, but as an emotional state that manifests itself in dance. Homeland becomes a landscape of rediscovered memories, but also a sense of belonging, stability and longing. For *Schneeland*, the Norwegian choreographer Jon Ole Olstad draws inspiration from the cold season of his Scandinavian homeland. His winter is not merely a natural phenomenon, but a state of mind and body. Solitude, melancholy and silence characterise his visual world, as does the power that arises when people share the cold, their breath and tension together. In *Kogel*, the American Heidi Vierthaler invites the audience on a journey through shifting emotional landscapes – a choreographic return to her Styrian roots and to her mother’s homeland. The result is a sensitive, curious and powerful encounter with the ‘yesterday’ – and with what it evokes in the ‘today’.
