The Reader

The story that captivated millions of readers around the world and was famously adapted for the screen, starring Oscar-winning Kate Winslet, is coming to the stage in an uncompromising, emotionally charged adaptation. The production tells the story of a fateful and forbidden love between an adolescent boy and a mysterious older woman. Their relationship, filled with burning desire and the intimate ritual of reading aloud, suddenly ends without explanation. The real shock, however, comes several years later. When the two protagonists meet again in a courtroom, a chilling truth about war crimes is revealed, bringing love and morality into direct conflict with evil. The story raises a profound question: Can someone forgive a person they love after discovering what they have done? Jitka Čvančarová, Jiří Korn and Daniel Krejčík excel in the leading roles of this gripping drama about guilt, shame and forgiveness. *The production is a co-production of the Pojď na dosah theater group and Nová Spirála.* –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– **Description of the venue:** Nová Spirála at Výstaviště: a European multi-genre highlight The newly reconstructed cultural venue in Prague features a circular 360° auditorium, a revolving stage with trapdoors, immersive sound, unlimited videomapping possibilities, and overhead rigging designed not only for acrobatic performances.
